SideGigs ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using SideGigs, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
When you create an account or use our services, we collect:
- Account information: name, email address, password (hashed — never stored in plain text)
- Profile information: bio, city, state, phone number (optional), profile photo
- Listing information: service descriptions, photos, pricing, location
- Booking information: service requests, messages between Buyers and Providers, booking dates and status
- Payment information: billing details submitted through Stripe (we do not store card numbers — see Section 4)
Information Collected Automatically
When you visit SideGigs, we automatically collect:
- Usage data: pages visited, features used, search queries, time spent on the platform
- Device information: browser type, operating system, IP address
- Cookies and local storage: authentication tokens and preferences stored in your browser (see Section 5)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Enable bookings between Buyers and Providers
- Process payments and payouts
- Send transactional emails (booking confirmations, payment receipts, status updates)
- Send SMS notifications if you opt in to this service
- Improve our platform and diagnose technical issues
- Prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.
3. Sharing Your Information
With Other Users
When you post a listing, your name, profile information, and listing details are visible to other users. When you make or accept a booking, your name and contact information may be shared with the other party to facilitate the service.
With Service Providers
We share data with trusted third-party providers who help us operate SideGigs:
- Stripe: payment processing. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Google: optional OAuth sign-in. If you sign in with Google, Google's Privacy Policy applies.
- Twilio: optional SMS notifications, only if you provide a phone number and opt in
- Render / Neon: hosting and database infrastructure operating in secure data centers
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
4. Payment Data
Payments on SideGigs are processed by Stripe. When you enter payment information, it goes directly to Stripe's secure servers. SideGigs does not store, log, or have access to your full card number, CVV, or bank account details.
We may store non-sensitive transaction information such as transaction IDs, amounts, and timestamps for record-keeping and dispute resolution purposes.
5. Cookies and Local Storage
SideGigs uses browser storage to keep you logged in and remember your preferences:
- Authentication token (localStorage): keeps you logged in between sessions. Cleared when you log out.
- Session data (sessionStorage): temporary data like referral codes, cleared when you close your browser tab.
- Analytics pixel: a visitor ID is stored in localStorage for anonymous usage analytics. This is not tied to your account or identity.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, tax, or fraud prevention purposes. Transaction records may be retained for up to 7 years for accounting purposes.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correction: request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Deletion: request that we delete your personal data
- Portability: request your data in a machine-readable format
- Opt-out: unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time (transactional emails cannot be opted out of while your account is active)

8. Children's Privacy
SideGigs is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. However, no system is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to log out on shared devices.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on the platform or emailing your registered address. Your continued use of SideGigs after the changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
